The Monster Carpathon 2008

I hope everyone enjoyed the day and if you have a story to tell or a photo of your day fishing the Monster Carpathon please feel free to share and email to .

Congratulations to our winners Michelle Fleming of Flynn and Ben Waters of Dunlop who both took home $1200 in cash.

Junior winners were April Davis of Queanbeyan and Connor Brandon of Farrer who won gift vouchers for $500. Our hourly winners (of whom I only have three names) included Jesse Drew of Gordon, Shawn Cowling of Latham and Shane Jasprizza from Civic who took home a tackle box, a fishing rod, a couple of hats and $100. Well done to all. There were two other winners whose names I don't have.

Next years competition is already being organised with a few changes. Weigh stations will be open from 9.00am with the last weigh-in at 3.00pm. Presentation of winners will be at 4.00pm making the day finish at 4.30pm. It will held on Sunday 15th February 2009. Prizes will also be bigger and better for the 2nd Monster Carpathon.

So, until next years competition, keep your lines wet!

Tales of the day

Mr X who was fishing with his hand line got a surprise when it took off! But the Carp on the other end was the loser when Mr X took his shirt off, jumped into the water and swam after it. He did a fishing swimming combo and finally got his line and fish back to shore.

Some other kids were not so lucky as they had been sorting through their gear all week and packing their tackleboxes in anticipation of putting the right stuff together to snare their prey. The boys arrived with their rods but the tackle boxes were left sitting on the driveway. And NO, mum was not driving back to get them! They finished, they lost, and next year the tackleboxes will be in the car. Let's hope they don't forget their rods!

I also know another young lad who, riding with his fishing rod, stacked his bike. Thankfully, his rod was okay and bruised and batterd he sat on the jetty and kept on fishing. Oh dear, I don't believe it, he dropped his rod into the deep! Now he was not happy. That was the end of his fishing day. I can tell you, however, that his rod was retrieved the next day.

My last tale for the day is of some highly skilled fishermen, or so they tell me . . highly skilled in fishing . . . well they didn't catch a single fish!   I think they were more skilled in catching a hangover under the shade of a willow tree.
